Moments of Magic

With any sport, when it comes to big games or must win games, there is only 1 factor to consider, who wants it most. When it comes to a whole season however there are too many factors to even mention and everyone would have their own ideas. You can have the best team in the world but can still struggle due to a million and one different reasons. It is not easy to turn a bad season around especially when you’re down in the dumps it’s difficult to pick yourself up. So how does a team go about turning a bad season around? Well its actually quite simple in theory, all it takes is one moment, one moment of pure magic. When you see it the hair on the back of your neck stands on end, the crowd roars and all of a sudden that fire is burning once again. This moment could be anything, an amazing goal from 40m away, and a side step that leaves the player flat on their back or a six straight out of the stadium. What ever it may be, this moment can change the whole season for a team but it only starts the momentum, they have to use that extra fire and run with it. It reminds me of the 2005 UEFA Champions league final when Liverpool cam back from a 3-0 deficit to win and it all started with an amazing goal by Steven Gerrard. Or even last years Currie Cup Final when a drop goal from Dimitri Catrakilis sparked Western Province to beat the Sharks against all odds. Finding that magic moment isn’t easy especially when you’re down but when you do find it… well I can’t even describe the feeling it gives you. You may watch a whole game and nothing happens but when it does, well that’s why we watch sport, for those moments of magic.
